Cutlery Project Brief

Create a set of cutlery for use in a specific context. The context can be anything you are motivated to pursue – it could be a specific space or interior, a specific utilitarian requirement, a specific meal or cuisine, or a combination of multiple factors. But the context you design for should frame the rational evident in your project and will be used to evaluate your decision making. It is also expected that the context be rooted in something real and focused on dining. The technical, utilitarian and aesthetic character of your design should relate back to and support the needs of the user in your scenario. Your design should satisfy the following requirements:

  • Set must include a fork, knife and spoon
  • All utensils should use the same basic handle geometry but have a variation in the shape and function of the “head”
  • The handles should be narrower than the “head” of the utensils
  • Designs can be intended for any material or process, but should be designed with a minimum wall thickness of 1/16″
  • Designs will be realized with 3D printing, so all models must be solids
